Sherlock Holmes suggests that their other name, Titan's Pit, comes from the Titan Atlas in Greek mythology WP pointing out their duties are same in some way. This organization is named after the Atlas Mountains WP where it is located, while Clock Tower magi nickname it "the Pit".
